Dragon Seed

I love used book stores and book sales. Here in Campbellton, we have a great second-hand bookstore used books etc and the SPCA sells books on a regular basis.

Why do I love these outlets because I can pick up great books such as Peral S. Buck's "Dragon Seed" for very little money, contribute to a local charity or business and talk books with people who read.

"Dragon Seed" was published in January 1942.  Yes, I could have purchased a new copy online but I enjoy browsing for books in person. I never know what adventures I may find.

Why We?

I find reading a great opportunity to take myself out of my comfort zone. "We" is translated from Russian and was first published in 1928, a very different language, culture and time than the one I inhabit.

The commonality between then and now is the loss of freedom, creativity, and individuality both periods experience. "We" is an extreme form of conformity, obedience to authority and the acceptance of a loss of choice and privacy, both of which are vital issues right now.

We: Yevgeny Zamyatin

Good day, I created this blog to talk about books. I love to read and read deeply in both the fiction and non-fiction categories, Great books I read more than once.

We is one of those books. This is not a review site but a place to talk about what we are reading, have read and why we read.

I read to learn, to relax, to go on a journey. One thing I do not do is force myself to continue to read a book that does not get my attention in the first few pages. I have stopped reading books half-way through because the turn of the plot was disappointing.

Zamyatin's We is a companion to 1984 and Brave New World.
